◉ According to literature, Akamaseki inkstones have a history of 600 years, dating back to the Muromachi period. The Akama stone is a reddish-brown, lustrous green tuff, mixed with iron oxides, mud, and ash, said to have a stone quality similar to Chinese Duanxi. Based on color variations, they are classified into Shikinseki, Shuinsseki, Shigyokuseki, Shiseki, and Shiseki.
◯ The artisan's work skillfully utilizes the natural Akama stone, forming it with a slightly rounded shape for stability.
The edges of the inkstone are meticulously polished to a smooth finish.
The surface features beautiful stone patterns in speckled bean-red and light bean-red, characteristic of Akama stone.
Recommended for use with kana and small character calligraphy.
Please refrain from purchasing if you are sensitive.
